Sinner becomes the first player in history to win the "Sunshine Double" without dropping a single set.

This morning Beijing time, the ATP1000 Miami Masters men's singles final concluded. Second seed Sinner defeated 21st seed Lehecka 6-4, 6-4, maintaining a perfect 4-0 record against him. With a 12-match winning streak, he clinched the "Sunshine Double," marking his seventh Masters title and 26th singles championship. Sinner has now won 34 consecutive sets in Masters events, further extending his own record.

Two weeks ago, Sinner won the title at Indian Wells, making this the first time in his career he has captured the Sunshine Double in the same year.

Since Federer in 2017, Sinner is the first male player to achieve the Sunshine Double, and the eighth male player in history to accomplish this feat. Since the Miami Open joined the ATP tour, it and the Indian Wells Open are collectively known as the North American "Sunshine Swing."

Here are the players who have swept the "Sunshine Double" in the same year since 1985: Courier (1991), Chang (1992), Sampras (1994), Rios (1998), Agassi (2001), Federer (2005, 2006, 2017), Djokovic (2011, 2014, 2015, 2016), Sinner (2026).

Unlike the seven tennis legends above, Sinner's championship run this year also set a more historically significant record: he is the first player in tennis history (male or female) to win the Sunshine Double without losing a single set.

On his path to victory at Indian Wells and Miami this month, Sinner won 24 consecutive sets. Only one opponent (Fonseca) managed to reach a set point. The Brazilian youngster, in the fourth round at Indian Wells, led 6-3 in the first-set tiebreak and held three set points, but Sinner ultimately reversed the outcome to win 7-6(6), 7-6(4).

None of the previous seven male players who swept the Indian Wells and Miami titles managed to do so without dropping a set.

On the women's side, historically, five female players have achieved the "Sunshine Double" in the same year: Graf (1994, 1996), Clijsters (2005), Azarenka (2016), Swiatek (2022), Sabalenka (2026). Similarly, none managed to win both titles without losing a set.

Before Sinner, the record for the fewest sets lost among all Sunshine Double winners was 1 set, jointly held by Graf (1994, 1996) and Djokovic (2016). The specifics are: Graf defeated Zvereva 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the 1994 Miami final; Graf defeated Davenport 6-7(6), 7-6(3), 6-4 in the 1996 Indian Wells semifinal.

Djokovic defeated Fratangelo (now Keys' husband and coach) 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of Indian Wells in 2016.

After winning the championship, Sinner said: "Of course, I want to thank my team for their constant support. I know not all of you are here, some are watching from home. I am very happy with this achievement. But what satisfies me even more is the tennis form and competitive level we are striving to display."Source: Tennis Home, Author: Yun Juan Yun Shu
