The clay season has always been a highlight event on the tour each year. Although clay tournaments are not as routine as hard court matches, compared to grass court competitions, there are still numerous events of this court type. Besides the French Open, which fans eagerly anticipate, there are several high-level tournaments at the 1000-level, which also imposes considerable points defense pressure on players who perform well during the clay season each year.
So, what are the main points defense pressures for men's and women's singles players in this year's clay season? Let's explore together below!

#Women's Singles Players
Gauff and Sabalenka Under Pressure
Gauff is the women's player with the greatest points defense pressure in this clay season. She won the French Open last year (2000 points), and also achieved runner-up finishes in Madrid and Rome (each 650 points). Additionally, with points from Stuttgart, this American player will have a total of 3408 points to defend.

Current women's singles world number one Sabalenka has a cumulative total of 2840 points to defend. Her largest points gain from last clay season came from the French Open with 1300 points, and she also won the Madrid title for 1000 points. Of course, if she maintains her form from this season so far, Sabalenka still has opportunities to earn more points.

Chinese player Zheng Qinwen faces a cumulative points defense pressure of 938 points. She reached the semifinals in Rome last year and advanced to the women's singles quarterfinals at the French Open. Besides these three players, others with substantial points to defend include Paolini (1500 points), Swiatek (1343 points), Svitolina (1285 points), and Andreeva (920 points).

Alcaraz Faces Massive Pressure, Musetti Second
As another top clay court player since Nadal, Alcaraz has consistently demonstrated strong dominance during the clay season. Among the 26 singles titles Alcaraz has won so far, as many as 11 come from clay courts, with 11 from hard courts and 4 from grass courts.
This year, Alcaraz has a whopping 4330 points to defend during the clay season. Following him are:
Musetti 2250 points
Sinner 1950 points
Ruud 1500 points
Zverev 1260 points
Draper 1150 points
Djokovic 1070 points
Paul 1000 points
Cobolli 985 points
Tiafoe 775 points

Compared to the women's side, aside from Alcaraz who stands far ahead, the points defense pressure among men's players is relatively balanced. There are eight players alone who need to defend over 1000 points. In comparison, Sinner is the player with the most points to defend besides Alcaraz and Musetti.
Carrying the good form from his Indian Wells and Miami double titles, Sinner remains quite modest about preparing for the upcoming clay season. He clearly stated that his expectations are lower for the early part of the European clay season.
