Jannik Sinner only needs the Roland Garros championship to achieve a Career Grand Slam.
Former world number one doubles player Rennae Stubbs recently made a notable assessment, stating that Jannik Sinner is the top contender for the Roland Garros 2026 title. If he triumphs in Paris, the Italian player will complete his collection of prestigious Grand Slam titles in his career.
After the series of tournaments "Sunshine Double" concluded, the focus of the tennis world is gradually shifting to the clay court season, with the most important destination being Roland Garros. Last year, Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz created one of the most memorable finals in the tournament's history. The Spanish player secured victory after a thrilling 5 hours and 29 minutes, saving three championship points and staging a spectacular comeback from a two-set deficit.
However, ahead of this year's season, Stubbs believes the balance has shifted. On her personal podcast, this former player who won 5 Grand Slams emphasized Sinner's clear progress, particularly in his forehand.
"He is now the number one candidate. What I saw in Miami shows that Sinner has comprehensively elevated his game, especially his consistency and ability to maintain pressure.", Stubbs commented.
Sinner's recent form has been extremely impressive. The world number two player just completed a double title win at the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open without losing a single set - an unprecedented achievement in ATP history. This allows him to enter the clay court season with high confidence.
Meanwhile, Alcaraz appears to be showing signs of a slowdown in form after an extremely "hot" start earlier this year. He stopped in the semifinals of Indian Wells against Daniil Medvedev, before being eliminated early by Sebastian Korda in Miami.
According to the schedule, both Alcaraz and Sinner will start their clay court season at the Monte Carlo Masters, taking place from April 5th to April 12th. Carlitos is the defending champion of the tournament, while Sinner was absent last season due to being under a playing ban at that time.
