Iga Swiatek makes a crucial decision, determined to revive her form during the clay season.

World No. 4 Iga Swiatek has made a significant move to recover her form, incorporating seasoned coach Francisco Roig into her coaching staff prior to the 2026 French Open endeavor.

After parting ways with coach Wim Fissette immediately following the Miami Open – where she unexpectedly exited in the first round against Magda Linette – Swiatek swiftly found a replacement. Collaborating with Roig is seen as a vital move, especially as the clay season has commenced and Roland-Garros is approaching.

The Polish player's recent performance has been rather inconsistent. She consecutively halted her runs in the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, the Qatar Open, and the Australian Open. This series of results has caused Swiatek to lose stability and drop to the No. 4 position in the world rankings.

Nevertheless, partnering with Roig brings considerable hope. The Spanish coach was a long-time collaborator of legend Rafael Nadal, playing a key role in the "King of Clay's" dominant journey alongside Toni Nadal. Additionally, he has also coached Matteo Berrettini and recently Emma Raducanu before their separation earlier this year.

On social media, Swiatek shared a brief but determined message: "Welcome to the team, Francisco! Very excited for this new chapter," accompanied by an image of them training on an indoor clay court.

Swiatek's most recent individual title was in Korea last September. Although she won the United Cup with the Polish team in January, she has been surpassed in the rankings by rivals such as Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Coco Gauff.

However, clay has always been Swiatek's "domain" with four Roland-Garros championships. With support from Roig, the 24-year-old player is expected to rediscover her top form – the kind that propelled her to world No. 1 at just 20 years old – and prepare for a powerful "resurgence" in Paris.
