US Open 2026 announces mixed doubles lineup: Djokovic partners with Sabalenka, Eala makes first appearance

The final Grand Slam of the year will once again adopt the new mixed doubles competition format (different from other events) similar to the previous season.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has officially announced the first 16 pairs competing in the mixed doubles event at the US Open 2026. Most notably, the pairing of world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is expected to become a top contender for the title.

The mixed doubles event at the US Open was restructured starting in 2025 to attract top stars from the ATP and WTA. The new format quickly created a positive buzz by bringing together numerous big names and raising the prize money for the winning team to $1 million.

Besides Sabalenka and Djokovic, this year's tournament features several other notable pairings. Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek reunites with Casper Ruud after they finished as runners-up last season. Jessica Pegula partners with Jack Draper, while Alexander Zverev teams up with doubles specialist Taylor Townsend.

In other pairings, Daniil Medvedev will play alongside Diana Shnaider, while Mirra Andreeva joins compatriot Andrey Rublev. Defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori also return to Flushing Meadows aiming to retain the title they won last year.

One of the highlights of the tournament is the debut of Philippine player Alexandra Eala. The Southeast Asian star will partner with Felix Auger-Aliassime, promising to bring surprises in her first appearance in this event.

Fans will also witness iconic pairings such as Leylah Fernandez alongside Frances Tiafoe, and siblings Peyton Stearns and Preston Stearns competing together. Meanwhile, Amanda Anisimova will team up with Learner Tien in a completely new combination.

Another notable name is Kei Nishikori. The veteran Japanese player, who will retire after the 2026 season, makes his first mixed doubles appearance at the US Open and will partner with compatriot Naomi Osaka.

According to USTA Executive Director Craig Tiley, bringing together top male and female players on the same team is a fantastic way to promote tennis at the highest level. The organizers have also confirmed that eight additional wild cards will be awarded before the tournament begins.

This means fans still have hope of seeing Carlos Alcaraz participate. Previously, there were reports that the Spanish player might team up with Serena Williams, the legend who surprisingly returned to professional competition during this year's grass court season. However, neither Carlitos nor Serena have appeared on the initial entry list, leaving the possibility of a "super pair" at Flushing Meadows still open.
