Determine the objectives of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team in major tournaments following the historic milestone in China

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team enters 2026 with a packed international competition schedule, where the primary focus remains the 2026 ASIAD, the premier continental sports arena.

This information was emphasized by the General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, Le Tri Truong, during a working session on March 21, 2026, with the specific requirement that the team must aim for a position within the top four overall.

This is not an unrealistic goal considering what the team achieved at ASIAD 19 three years ago in China. At that time, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his players created a historic milestone by reaching the semifinals for the first time and finishing the tournament in fourth place.

This achievement not only elevated the status of Vietnamese women's volleyball on the Asian map but also placed significant pressure on the journey to maintain that ranking in this year's major event.

Alongside professional duties, 2026 also marks a financial transformation as the team continues to receive support from corporate partners.

Following the first instance of having a dedicated sponsor last year, Vietnamese women's volleyball has signed a cooperation agreement with Ca Mau Petroleum Fertilizer Company. This support is expected to provide a more solid foundation for long-term preparations, from training, international competitions to improving athlete benefits.

According to the plan, the team will assemble after the conclusion of the first phase of the 2026 national championship. The international competition schedule is densely packed with a series of important tournaments such as the AVC Cup 2026 held in the Philippines in June, SEA V.League 2026 taking place in Thailand and Vietnam, VTV Cup 2026, along with the Asian Championship in August in China. All are considered crucial preparatory steps before embarking on the ASIAD 20 campaign in Japan in September.

Notably, in the new sponsorship agreement, the team is also offered a reward of 500 million VND for each championship at the AVC Cup 2026 as well as for each stage of the SEA V.League. This is a considerable source of motivation, helping to boost the competitive spirit and aspirations of the national team players.

Nevertheless, the leadership of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation maintains necessary caution. Mr. Le Tri Truong emphasized that ASIAD is a stage gathering the continent's top strong teams, therefore the team requires thorough preparation both professionally and psychologically.

Maintaining focus and stable performance will be the key factors for Vietnamese women's volleyball to continue affirming its position and aiming for new milestones.
